Opinions are generally included like this: "Reader: great book on educational issues." I maintain this list in Unix bib format, then convert it to HTML and the format used in the AUTISM FAQ Memo.

I am updating the list constantly, so changes have been made to it since the writing of this introduction.

[autism, social, treatment] The Handbook of Autism: a Guide for Parents and Professionals (London: Travistock/Routledge, 1991). This book is not about autism but is an important reference in psychological practice. [autism, disability, bibliography] Tales from the Table: Five Accounts of Lovaas Intervention With Children on the Autistic Spectrum (Jessica Kingsley Pub, forthcoming). Our Journey Through High Functioning Autism and Asperger Syndrome: A Roadmap (Jessica Kingsley Pub, 2001).

Note that there have been numerous changes since DSM III which affect the diagnoses of Autism and related disorders. ISBN: 0890420629 (paperback, 886 pages, June 1994); ISBN: 0890420610 (hardcover, 886 pages, July 1994). ISBN: 1843103060 (paperback, 160 pages, due 5/15/2006). Forewords by Tony Attwood and Liane Holliday Willey. [autism, aspergers, account] Voices from the Spectrum: Parents, Grandparents, Siblings, People With Autism, And Professionals Share Their Wisdom (Jessica Kingsley Pub, forthcoming).

While this list includes books in languages other than English, it does not include many because I do not run into references to them nearly so often as the ones in English, and when I see a title, I cannot aways tell if it is really about autism.

Also included in this bibliography are a few books not specifically dedicated to autism, but said to be valuable to parents of autistics.

I would not mind assembling a list of the 20 or 50 most valuable articles if I knew how to choose them.

I welcome short descriptions of and opinions on the books.

Each entry has key words which indicate whether the book is specifically about autism.
